According to the UN food aid agency, in late December, a combined UN convoy of nine trucks reached people in the Beit Hanoun area of northern Gaza. The people of that area were deprived of assistance for the last 75 days. Photographs taken by UN staff show desperate Gazans scrambling out of their shelters to get bottled water, flour and canned food. The World Food Program launched an Israeli attack on October 6. Since then, 101 requests have been sent to Israeli authorities to deliver food to areas of the Northern Governorate of Gaza: only three of those requests were approved. UN disaster relief coordinator Tom Fletcher warned on Monday that the "almost complete (Israeli) siege" of the northern region increases the risk of famine. While winter is approaching in overcrowded southern Gaza, conditions are leading to “appalling living conditions and even greater humanitarian needs”. Tom Fletcher has spent the past week meeting with UN staff, partners and communities in several Middle Eastern countries. He described Gaza as the most dangerous place in the world to deliver humanitarian aid. Notably, over the past year, Gaza has been the place where more humanitarians have been killed than in any other year on record. Law and Order The disintegration of Gaza and the looting of UN humanitarian aid supplies by armed groups are giving rise to additional concerns. Israeli military attacks continue in northern Gaza. The Israeli siege, in addition to severely limiting food aid supplies, has left 15,000 people without access to food, water, electricity and health care. Injuries continue. According to media reports, at least 20 people were killed in Israeli air strikes last night, including those in Al-Mawasi. This area has been declared a humanitarian zone. Apart from this, Israeli attacks have also been carried out on Al-Nusirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
