Washington: Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. But even before taking oath he is in trouble. Actually thousands of people have gathered in Washington to protest against the policies of Donald Trump. Trump, 78, will replace 82-year-old Joe Biden and enter the White House on Tuesday. Under the banner of People's March, many non-profit organizations including Sakhi for South Asian Survivors demonstrated here against Trump's policies. The People's March – formerly known as the Women's March – has been held every year since 2017. Protesters displayed anti-Trump posters and banners and chanted slogans against the next president and some of his close supporters, such as Tesla owner Elon Musk. The same group had performed a similar demonstration in January 2017, when Trump became President for the first time. Starting from three different parks, these demonstrations ended near the Lincoln Memorial. The People's March said, “Mass demonstrations are the most effective way to show our communities that we are not ready to bow to fascism or already comply, and invite them to do the same.” Why is Trump being opposed? Donald Trump, former President of America, is once again in the headlines. The waves of protest against him are increasing. Let us know the reasons behind this: 1. Racial controversy: During Trump's tenure, his statements on racial issues created controversies many times. There was a lot of criticism regarding his attitude during the Black Lives Matter movement. 2. Covid-19 management: Questions were raised on Trump's decisions and the information given by him during the pandemic. Many people believe that due to his policies the number of infections and deaths increased in America. 3. Capitol Hill Violence: Trump was held responsible for the attack on Capitol Hill on January 6, 2021. His supporters tried to overturn the election results, leading to violence in the country. 4. Comments against women: Many old video and audio clips of Trump have surfaced, in which he has made objectionable comments against women. This has also damaged his image. 5. Economic Policies: There is dissatisfaction among many people regarding Trump's economic policies. The gap between the rich and the poor increased further during his tenure. Due to all these reasons, opposition to Trump is increasing. Even though his supporters are trying to justify him, the number of opponents is also not less. Now it remains to be seen how Trump faces these criticisms and what role he plays in future politics. The rallies coincide with Trump's arrival in the capital, part of a series of weekend events ahead of his inauguration on Monday. Coalition members include Abortion Action Now, Time to Act, SisterSong, Women's March, Popular Democracy in Action, Harriet's Wildest Dreams, The Feminist Front, NOW, Planned Parenthood, National Women's Law Center Action Fund, Sierra Club, and The Frontline. The Women's March is handling the arrangements for the event. Similar smaller-scale marches were also held in other cities, including New York, Seattle and Chicago. “We're really here to support women, equality, immigration, all those things that we don't get a chance to have much of a say in right now,” Brittany Martinez, one of the protesters, told USA TODAY. Law enforcement officials said demonstrations and major events were being planned for the weekend ahead of Monday's swearing-in. The protesters condemned Trump's policies and values. Many of them chanted “F**k Trump!”, “Trans Lives Matter!”, “Stand Up, Fight Back!”, “Trust Black Women!” And raised slogans of “We Cannot Be Silent”.
