Texas: American billionaire Elon Musk has suffered another setback. The Starship rocket mission of SpaceX, the company that gave flight to his dreams, has failed. This mission was very important for Musk. Releasing the post-launch video on social media, Elon Musk wrote, “Success is uncertain, but entertainment is guaranteed.” SpaceX conducted a new test of its Starship rocket on Thursday, but the spacecraft was destroyed after a thrilling booster catch. Elon Musk's company said Starship broke up in what it called a "rapid unplanned disintegration." During flight the spacecraft's six engines shut down one by one, and contact was lost after 8 1/2 minutes of flight. How did the mission fail? This new and improved model, which was on its first flight, was supposed to fly in a loop around the world from Texas across the Gulf of Mexico. SpaceX packed it with 10 dummy satellites to practice launching them. One minute before it was destroyed, SpaceX grabbed the returning booster using the launch tower's giant mechanical arms, something that had only been done once before. The descending booster hovered above the launch pad and was then grabbed by arms called chopsticks. The thrill of the catch soon turned to disappointment, not only for the company but also for the crowd gathered at the southern tip of Texas. SpaceX spokesman Dan Huet said, “It was great to see the booster come down, but we're obviously disappointed the ship is a flight test. This is an experimental vehicle.” The final data received from the spacecraft indicated an altitude of 90 miles (146 kilometers) and a speed of 13,245 mph (21,317 km/h). Musk said preliminary analysis suggests a fuel leak may have increased pressure in a cavity above the engine firewall. He said fire suppression will be added to the area, venting will be increased and leaks will be re-investigated. The 400-foot (123-meter) long rocket roared off from Boca Chica Beach near the Mexican border in the late afternoon. The late takeoff time ensured daylight access across the Indian Ocean halfway around the world. But the shiny retro-looking spacecraft never got that far. SpaceX had made improvements to the spacecraft for the latest demo and added a fleet of satellite mockups. The test satellites were similar in size to SpaceX's Starlink internet satellites and, like the spacecraft, were designed to be destroyed upon entry. What is Musk's plan?Musk plans to launch actual Starlinks on Starships and then move on to other satellites and eventually cruise. This was the seventh test flight of the world's largest and most powerful rocket. NASA has reserved a pair of Starships to land astronauts on the Moon later this decade. Musk's target is Mars. A few hours earlier in Florida, another billionaire's rocket company – Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin – launched a new supersized rocket, the New Glenn. The rocket entered orbit on its first flight, successfully placing an experimental satellite thousands of miles above Earth. But the first stage booster was destroyed, missing its targeted landing on a floating platform in the Atlantic.
