Peru declared a health emergency due to a surge in Guillain-Barré Syndrome cases. The rare neurological disorder prompted a 90-day emergency response, following 182 reported cases with 4 deaths. Guillain-Barré Syndrome occurs when the immune system attacks the body's nerves, requiring immediate hospitalization. The cause is unknown, but infections can be a precursor.
